    I bought a city commuter platinum edition at my local shop they had in stock right there after giving it a test ride. A lot of people online complain that step through bike frames flex while riding. I personally haven't noticed any bending/flexing during my test ride. I liked the look of the classic frame step over version online but it would've taken about a month or so to arrive and it was bigger/had 28 inch wheels vs the 26 inch wheels my step through has. Their website said the bigger wheel classic frame version is suitable for people 5'10" and up and I'm only 5'7" so I decided to stick with the step through. I hope it'll be fine over the long haul. I'm currently 261lbs and it's advertised as 250lbs capacity but it rode just fine and the shop technician said he's had customers closer to 280 who ride theirs while wearing loaded backpacks with no problems so that made me feel a bit better although I'm on a mission to shed a few pounds for my overall health lol.

    Presently at 70 I do 30 milesX3 per week ( I have always been a cyclist ), however both knees are goosed and my right knee will be getting done first in a couple of months time. But here's the crunch, the surgeon says don't cycle again, why? because the artificial knees are not robust enough to take a fall. And if you cycle long enough, you'll come off at some point, might not even be fast but just something stupid at a slow speed but it's enough to knack your new joint. And a second surgery is never as successful, in fact there is 20 percent failure rate anyway with knee replacement.

    • @RobertBeriault753
      @RobertBeriault753 16 днів тому

      Since my surgery, I fell off my bike three times because of avoidable (risky) moves I made. My prosthetic is still fine. I'm not saying you can't damage it in a fall, just that most falls don't impact your knee. Life is too short not to take risks. 😃

    • @RobertBeriault753
      @RobertBeriault753 17 днів тому

      17 degrees is equivalent to 30.57 %, which is similar to the 16% hill we have here in Gatineau, which is a lot. A scooter is meant to ride without added human power, so it has to do 100% of the work. My daughter's 350 Watt Pedego can't climb that steep of a hill. I would get the most powerful scooter on the market.

You could drill a few hols in the bottom, for ventilation, and letting any water that got in have a way out. I tinkered with hard body panniers a few years ago. Made mine from some large dry boxes I got from a sporting good store. They worked great, but I found them to be a tad heavy, and yes they where on my Ebike. Plus a bit clunky. Two more key points: 1) Our heart-in-the-right-place narrator/UA-camr begins by showing an ebike with its battery attached (as is usual) UNDER the rear rack but tells us that rack batteries are placed on ie. on top of the rear rack. So his words don't fit the image shown 2) I waited in vain for him to mention ebike KITS - standard in-wheel kits have major obvious flexibility and transferability advantages that full ebike manufacturers obviously would prefer you not to be thinking about or know about eg. it's easy to buy another competitively-priced battery from any number of generic battery manufacturers and you can likewise easily upgrade to a longer range aka higher energy-density battery. It's easy to transfer a kit to any bicycle(pushbike) with the same wheel size. And ebike kits for the front wheel are much easier to fit, to remove and the bike's front/rear weight balance / distribution is obviously far better - and all the commonly repeated claims that front-wheel drive ebikes/kits are more difficult to control etc are much exaggerated. They're only trickier to handle if you're a crazy off-roader who's forever rapidly twisting and turning in every direction - so that applies to about 1% of ebikers. Paul G

    Can you switch batteries on an e-bike, to make it go faster, and ride for longer ??

    • @RobertBeriault753
      @RobertBeriault753 2 місяці тому

      This is a subject I'm not an expert on. But it is known that if you switch from a 48 Volt battery to a higher voltage one, such as 54 V, 60 V or 72 Volts, the bike will reach a higher maximum speed if the speed limiter is deactivated. As for how far it will go on a charge, that will depend on the capacity of the battery: how many Watt-Hours it contains, and of course, how you ride it!

  • @paulgovan3507
    @paulgovan3507 2 місяці тому

    The video just states the obvious. Doesn't mention for instance that by putting the battety inside the frame it makes it impossible to buy lower-cost replacement batteries from a wide selection of battery sellers as you can with external batteries. And if the in-frame ebike manufacturer disappears 3-4 years from now you'll have to find someone who can replace the individual cells in your old in-frame battery or figure out how to do the job yourself - or give up and buy a new ebike or attach an external battery to your formerly in-frame battery ebike that you originally bought because you thought it looked so sleek, slim and sleek - and just like a non-electric bike. The video uploader needs to seriously up his game... Paul G

    • @Bob-2027
      @Bob-2027 2 місяці тому

      1. Your comment just states the obvious - of course if you have an in-frame battery, you won't be able to easily buy a cheap knock-off replacement. 2. This video is obviously aimed at people new to Ebikes - it's in the title - "...Before Buying an Ebike." 3. Also, did you read the commenter before you? He even says that he wished he'd known this information before making his purchase. That's three strikes Paul. Rather than expend so much energy attacking an excellent and helpful video done by a small UA-camr, having just 11K subscribers, perhaps you'd be better served spending your time fact checking yourself before making unnecessary rude comments.

I have spoken about the dangers of buying cheap ebikes from fly-by-night companies and bicycle shops. However, your first comment completely missed a major point, which @Bob correctly pointed out: that my videos are aimed at new buyers that are new to ebikes. I thought that seems patently obvious. But you made things worse with your second comment by calling my viewers morons and half-asleep, when they are actually trying to educate themselves. I bought a fabulous e-bike x2 havoc step through last year. After 3 months the brakes started to squeal and screech. I cleaned the brakes and rotors with a degreaser. They were fine for a couple of rides and then they started to squeal again. I changed the brake pads. Same thing. I brought it to the store and Lampro decided to check age again the brake pads and the rotor. Same problem. I was wondering if you experienced the same problem.

      Sorry you're having problems with your new ebike. I only rode the bike 25 km, so it's not a good test for the durability of the brakes.

    I have a Scott escale with a cx performance bosch engine, that worked perfect on asphalt, trail, offroad, rain, snow, flud and rivers...for almost an year until on a nice sunny day shutted down and only starts for 2 seconds only from battery than shows on display empty battery and shuts down!!!! It passed over an year and no solutions, and I can't addres to local dealers cause they are like drog deallers, they promiss to take it into custody and look for the errors that a 25-30$ testing it offers but they are not trust worthy!!!! I think I will sell it for parts and never buy another...ever again!!!!😡🤬

    I’m enjoying your straight to the point, informative videos on e-biking, thanks! Since laws vary regarding motor power, in the US, the most prevalent hub motor is 750W, and 500W for mid-drives. While it wouldn’t be apples to apples, I’d be interested in seeing a 750W hub drive on the same hill, but recognize this may not be possible in Canada. One other concern with the mid-drive motor using that much torque is the stress put on the chain. Unless you can do mobile chain repair (a good skill to acquire for long trips, I imagine), this is a consideration. Because hub drives work directly on the wheel, if you have a throttle, you can use it to get to a place where you can get the chain fixed, assuming you’re not riding far from civilization 😊. By the way, if the hub drive won’t get you up some slopes, and you’re concerned about the mid-drive overheating, sounds like you might need a motorcycle for the type of touring you’re interested in. What have you decided? Thanks again!

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. There's no doubt that a motorcycle could climb any hill and I'd never have to worry about stalling in the middle of a big hill. But they're too fast for enjoying the scenery. Since I like going fast, I need a bike that can't allow me to do so. 32 kph or 20 mph is just right as a maximum.

    And now being 2024 with the Gen 4 smart system performance cx 85nm and the brand new update theres nothing better! Bosch has completely transformed its systems today! If you haven't tried a bosch gen 4 smart system seriously get to a demo day you'll no want to give it back! Massive amount of changes have happened in the last 4 years from this video

    Massive changes have been made to Bosch systems recently. I wouldn't buy anything else now! The 85Nm torque performance CX Gen 4 on the smart system is incredible. Everything can be adjusted in the app now, including speed, torque, and over-the-air updates and fixes. The new smart system and app are a pleasure to use. It's so user-friendly now with the Kiox 300 and 500 displays, and paired with the new Purion 200, it's a game-changer! You can also set an overrun if you need it, and it can be fully adjusted to the level you need. The new, simple walk-assist mode is a one-button push compared to the older, more complicated system. You definitely made the wrong choice with the low-torque motor and non-smart system. I highly recommend the new system. I won't touch anything else now, as they've pretty much perfected it. The new update in February 2024 made it even better!

      Thanks for the update on the Bosch system. Sounds like a great choice for someone who trusts electronic gadgets and chooses to do without a throttle.

    Hello Robert. How are you? Just found your trailer. This is the best idea I've seen of bike trailers. It would be fun to have a plan for building one. I wish we had bike trails like the ones in France and Germany. I live in Wyoming. No bears in Europe as far as I know😂

    Many Bosch CX Gen4 riders are finding their out of warranty £700 motor is junk just because a cheap sensor has failed. Bosch do not provide sensors or PCBs to anyone. Scandalous!!!

    Thanks for this very helpful video. We are planning to ride to Ottawa on this trail next month. We'll be on touring bikes. I'd like to avoid the really rough parts of the eastern end. Where would you advise picking up the trail instead of Rigaud? We're fine riding on roadways to get to a decent staring point. Appreciate your advice.
